Lake harriet Yacht Club
Lake Harriet Yacht Club is an all-volunteer group dedicated to sailing and racing in Minneapolis. They have three groups: racing, adaptive sailing and youth sailing. My husband and I have been racing with them since 2010, and it’s the best way to spend the summer. Below are just a few examples of the fun projects we’ve been lucky to design and produce for them.

It’s a long-standing tradition that the Commodore of the club is featured on the covers. The safety boat volunteers take photos of the racers all season long, which supplies action shots for the yearbook, social media and photo trophies.

Most of the yearbook consists of score statistics from the various season-long series and regattas on and off Lake Harriet.

2015 M-scow north american championship t-shirt
M-scow sailors from across the U.S. and Canada came to Lake Harriet for the North American Championship regatta. Since this was the first time the event was hosted in the upper midwest, we took an Up North/lumberjack theme with the boat wakes criss-crossing into a red & black buffalo plaid.

2016 ILYA MC Invite t-shirt
This Inter Lakes Yachting Association event draws top MC scow racers from across the country. Hosted by Lake Harriet Yacht Club this year, we highlight the iconic Bandshell on shore.

2018 Die Hard Regatta t-shirt
Before the Minneapolis Park Board enacted a “Do not feed the ducks” policy, the docks, sidewalks and boat lifts were covered in bird guano. 2018 was a particularly heavy year, so we dedicated a shirt to it.

2019 Die Hard Regatta T-shirt
The 2019 regatta chair wanted a Die Hard movie-themed shirt. Exploding buoys? Xmas themes? In the end, Duck Willis in an iconic white tank top flying (from NYC?) onto Lake Harriet to cause mayhem won. Yippee ki yay, LHYC.

2021 Die Hard Regatta/80th LHYC Anniversary t-shirt
80th club anniversary and Die Hard Regatta shirt in one. Features the depth map of the lake as a sail with sail fonts for type.

2022 Die Hard Regatta dry bag
Because the regatta souvenir this year was a dry sail bag, the logo needed to fit within 2”x3” print area instead of a large t-shirt. So the 2’s of the year are subtly turned into a boat with billowing sails, and the apostrophe is a bird.

LHYC Youth Sailing brochure
The LHYC Youth Sailing program has been part of the club since almost the beginning. LHYC partners with area sailing schools by steering all families to get basic sailing lessons through the Mpls Park Board and local schools. LHYC then offers continuing boat handling skills and introduction to racing to kids via weekly evening sessions, as well as having their fleet available to member families all summer long. Many kids go on to compete on high school and college teams. These brochures offer quick info for interested parents down at the lake.
